SKDP Track Team wins 2019 LHSAA State Championship

Terry Wilson guided St. Katharine Drexel Prep to a 19-6 regular-season record and into the playoffs in an effort to repeat as Division III champion. The Division II girls competition at the LHSAA Indoor Track and Field Championships were as close as it could be Saturday afternoon at LSU’s Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. It was so close that St. Katharine Drexel and defending champion Academy of Sacred Heart finished tied, and shared the team title after each scored 50 points.

The McGehee Hawks were hoping the third time playing against St. Katharine Drexel might present a different outcome than the first two. However, when the teams met in the Division III quarterfinals Thursday at McMain, the Yellow Jackets' pressure defense was just as intense as they took a 46-34 victory. St. Katharine, the Division III defending state champion, advanced to the semifinals in Alexandria. Read more at the www.theadvocate.com

Senior Katharine Ross took part in the Core Element STEM Workshop on December 1, 2018. The workshop focus on teaching young students and teachers about Cybersecurity. Congratulations to Katharine for being selected as one of the Core Element student advisory board members.

The Patrick F. Taylor Foundation announced the 18 finalist in the 18 in '18, an arts competition showcasing the creative talents of high school juniors and they special connections to the culture of New Orleans. These students were selected based on original essays, graphic arts, poems and video submissions from 21 of the Orleans Parish high schools. Read more here!

St. Katharine Drexel Prep was supposed to be too young to win a state championship. The Yellow Jackets, after all, didn't have any juniors or seniors in their starting lineup. But that didn't stop Terry Wilson's team from winning the division III state championship and delivering the school's first basketball championship trophy to Magazine Street.
