Today, our community joins Catholics around the world in celebrating the Feast of St. Katharine Drexel, whose faith and vision continue to inspire the mission of St. Katharine Drexel Preparatory School.
Born in 1858 in Philadelphia, Katharine Drexel dedicated her life and fortune to serving Black and Native American communities through education and faith formation. She founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament and established schools across the country, including Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans in 1925.
Her lifelong commitment to justice and service led to her canonization by Pope John Paul II in 2000, making her the second American-born saint.
As we reflect on her feast day, we are reminded that her legacy lives on through the work we do every day, educating young scholars to lead lives of faith, service, and purpose.
Because of her vision, we are Preppers.
