The young ladies of Drexel Prep were honored to welcome the remarkable Dr. Ruth Simmons for a powerful and inspiring conversation. A trailblazer in higher education, Dr. Simmons is the daughter of a sharecropper, a graduate of Dillard and Harvard Universities, and has held esteemed leadership roles as President of Smith College, Prairie View A&M University, and notably, as the first African American President of Brown University—where she was named “Best College President” by Time Magazine.
Dr. Simmons shared her incredible journey, encouraging our scholars to pursue excellence with resilience and purpose. As a special gift, upper-grade students received a copy of her memoir, Up Home: One Girl’s Journey, a powerful story of perseverance and possibility.
We extend heartfelt gratitude to our very own Sheryl Neely XUP – Class of 1964, whose dedication made this unforgettable opportunity possible. Thank you for continuing to pour into future generations and helping us carry the legacy forward.
